SFMO investigation leads to indictment against fire safety equipment installer

Español

Following an investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFMO), a Jasper County grand jury indicted a fire safety equipment installer on two counts of tampering with a government document.

The service tags used to mark recently inspected or serviced fire safety equipment are government documents.

The indictment alleges Billy Don Knight, with Knight’s Fire & Safety, committed the violations when he attached service tags to kitchen hood fire suppression systems at two restaurants in Jasper County. He did not have a state license to perform the service.

Knight surrendered his licenses for servicing fire protection equipment in October 2021 following a separate investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

If convicted, Knight faces up to two years in state jail.
