On April 19, 2012, in accordance with Insurance Code §2151.207, the Commissioner of Insurance (commissioner) issued Commissioner's Order No. 12-0395. Commissioner's Order No. 12-0395 relates to changes in the rates for private passenger and commercial automobile insurance provided through the Texas Automobile Insurance Plan Association (TAIPA), which is the state's assigned risk plan. The changes are effective on July 1, 2012.

The commissioner ordered that the rates charged for private passenger automobile insurance provided through TAIPA increase by 31.9 percent for bodily injury liability and by 20.0 percent for property damage liability. The commissioner did not order changes in the rates for personal injury protection or uninsured/underinsured motorist coverages. The overall increase in the rates for private passenger automobile insurance provided through TAIPA is 24.1 percent.
