OSHA training for veterans

Distracted driving, holding a phone and a sandwich.

1 Why should veterans take OSHA training?

OSHA training helps Texas veterans build job skills by teaching industry-specific safety and health requirements needed in all businesses across the state and nation.

2 What types of OSHA training is available through DWC?

  • OSHA 10-Hour Construction courses, offered in English and Spanish, cover the basics of construction safety and the OSHA standards and requirements needed to help employees recognize and reduce job site hazards.
  • OSHA 10-Hour General Industry courses cover training to employers and their employees in the basics of occupational safety and the OSHA standards and requirements that apply to general industry.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction courses provide comprehensive instruction in OSHA safety and compliance requirements for safety directors, field supervisors, and others in the construction industry.
  • Industry-Specific Workplace Safety Training Programs are available to businesses, groups, and trade associations to meet the individual workplace training needs in more than 35 occupational areas. DWC training ranges from accident investigations, fall prevention, CPR certification, machine guarding, forklift safety, scaffolding requirements, and more.

3 What is the cost of DWC’s OSHA training?

The OSHA training through DWC – which often costs hundreds of dollars less than training from for-profit organizations – is available to veterans and others for free or at a minimal cost. DWC’s OSHA 10-Hour Construction courses are free. The general industry courses and the 30-Hour Construction courses are $30. Prices for the customized industry-specific workplace training programs vary but remain low-cost.

4 What can veterans expect from DWC’s OSHA training?

Most DWC-authorized OSHA outreach instructors bring 25 to 30 years of safety experience from various industries. All instruction includes high-quality safety and health training that follows strict OSHA regulations. Students can expect instruction that includes real-world safety and health scenarios, required class participation, and proof of comprehension.

DWC’s authorized OSHA outreach instructors can answer job training questions at 800-252-7031, option 2, or www.safetytraining@tdi.texas.gov. Online enrollment and the most current OSHA training calendar is available at DWC’s Workplace Safety Events & Training webpage.
