Fire Investigations

The State Fire Marshal is the chief investigator in charge of the investigation of fire in the State of Texas. By statutory authority, the State Fire Marshal commissions peace officers to act as fire and arson investigators and to perform other law enforcement duties.

The public can report suspicious activity involving fires by calling our Toll-Free Arson Hotline at 1-877-4FIRE45 (1-877-434-7345).

Fire Investigation Information

Fire scene investigations are based upon a protocol .

Specially trained canines are used, where appropriate, to aid with evidence collection at fire scenes.
