WINDSTORM INSPECTION PROGRAM

Hurricane season can be both devastating and costly.  If you are one of the many Texans that live along the 14 First Tier Counties along the Texas Gulf Coast, then you have seen 1st hand just how devastating a hurricane can be.

The information contained on the Windstorm Inspection Program's webpage is intended to notify the general public, insurance agents, engineers, builders and inspectors of the applicable process, rules and regulations that apply only to structures located in the following First Tier Counties along the Texas Gulf Coast as indicated in Section 2210.003(3) of the Texas Insurance Code: Aransas, Brazoria, Calhoun, Cameron, Chambers, Galveston, Jefferson, Kenedy, Kleberg, Matagorda, Nueces, Refugio, San Patricio, Willacy or in one of the cities east of State Highway 146 in Harris County (La Porte, Morgan's Point, Pasadena, Seabrook, Shoreacres) if the property owners are seeking wind and hail coverage through the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association.

ALTERNATIVE ELIGIBILITY PROGRAM   New!

Under the Alternative Eligibility Program, residential property owners may continue to obtain windstorm insurance for their structure through Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA) without having to be previously insured for wind within the last 12 months as required under the previous  waiver programs.  Windstorm insurance obtained through the Alternative Eligibility Program on or before August 31, 2012 cannot be renewed after August 31, 2013 without an "Alternative Certification."  Residential property  owners who do not have windstorm insurance through the Alternative Eligibility Program by August 31, 2012 must obtain an Alternative Certification to be eligible for coverage through TWIA.  An Alternative Certification provides evidence that a qualifying structural component complies with windstorm building code requirements.  The process for obtaining an Alternative Certification is currently under development by TDI and will be communicated in a separate notice.  Please see the following information for details.
