Peer Review Safety Program

The TDI-DWC Peer Review Safety Program recognizes Texas employers with  comprehensive safety programs.  These approved safety programs can serve as models or standards of comparison for employers developing or reviewing their own workplace safety programs.  Employers in the Peer Review Safety Program may be asked to provide assistance to peer organizations within the same North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code.  Such assistance may include presentations to appropriate industry associations, mentoring assistance to organizations, service as a panel member for safety/health issues, or participation in the TDI-DWC Safety and Health Conference.

Who is eligible to apply for Peer Review Safety Program recognition?

  • Any Texas employer with workers' compensation insurance
  • Employers without workers' compensation insurance that have five (5) or more employees

Who can nominate an employer for Peer Review Safety Program recognition?

  • An eligible business for itself
  • Workers' Compensation Insurance Carriers
  • Industry trade associations, labor organizations, or similar entities
  • TDI-DWC staff

All applications must be submitted for approval to the Texas Department of Insurance, Division of Workers' Compensation.   There is no charge for review of the application or for approval in the program.  After review of the application, a visit will be made to the company by a representative of the Division to validate the information contained in the application.  If approved, the recognition will be valid for two (2) years from the date of approval and may be renewed by the submission of updated injury data.

An employer may not be approved for the Peer Review Safety Program in the following cases:

  • an internal board recommendation is made based on consideration of overall business climate/performance;
  • a fatality has occurred in the past 12 months that was a direct result of a deficiency in the employer's safety program; or
  • the applicant is identified as a Rejected Risk employer and has failed inspection.

Download the Peer Review Safety Program application.  For more information or to receive an application, please call 512-804-4610.
