Advisory 95-04

For the past four months, the Commission has provided a Compliance and Practices self-audit training workshop for insurance carrier staff and other interested parties in the workers' compensation commission system. The class is designed to train carriers and others how to audit carrier files pursuant to the requirements of a compliance action plan or a voluntary self-audit reporting plan, and it covers the following topics:

  1. Indemnity audit findings including noncompliance involving both income payments and filing requirements,
  2. The sections of the Act and Rules which serve as a legal basis for the indemnity findings, as well as the information to be reviewed in an indemnity self-audit, and
  3. The methodology needed to capture findings for each file audited and then report those findings to the Commission.

Effective July 26, 1995, the Commission began to recover the cost of providing the self-audit workshop. The fee is $162.00 per participant, which includes the cost of the training manual. These fees are necessary to offset the Commission's staff time and training material expenses. The self-audit training is approved by the Texas Department of Insurance for six hours of 03 adjuster's license continuing education credit.

If you have any questions or are interested in signing up for this training, contact Carol Hennebach in the Compliance and Practices Division at (512) 707-5836.
