Advisory 94-07

Reminder Regarding Temporary Licensure by Board of Medical Examiners

The Texas State Board of Medical Examiners (B.M.E.), has notified my office that when doctors make application to the Board for licensure by reciprocity or licensure by Board examination, they are issued a TEMPORARY LICENSE. This Temporary License is issued until such time as (1) out-of-state verification can be reviewed in cases of reciprocity, or (2) the State Board Examinations have been passed out. We will track these licensure dates for permanent license issuance at the time of our biannual update from the Board of Medical Examiners.

When billing is received from either an M.D. Temp or a D.O. Temp with a license number of "Temp" given on the HCFA-1500 in box #33, it is to be reimbursed appropriately. The Temp notation indicates that the provider in question has been licensed temporarily by the B.M.E.. The professional prefix must be included (example: "MD Temp"; uppercase or lowercase is acceptable).

Signed this 28 th day of July, 1994.
