Advisory 2001-07

Standard Industrial Classification Codes (SIC Codes) and North American Industrial Classification System Codes (NAICS Codes)

The Texas Workers' Compensation Commission will begin accepting Standard Industrial Classification codes (SIC codes) with an SC suffix on January 1, 2002 and North American Industrial Classification System codes (NAICS codes) on July 1, 2003. The SIC is four digits followed by the SC suffix (i.e. 1611SC).

Please ensure reports are made using the SIC codes assigned to the employer by the Texas Workforce Commission.

Effective July 1, 2003, NAICS codes must be used on the first report of injury (either EDI 148 transactions or the TWCC Form 1). It is important to report the code assigned to the employer by the Texas Workforce Commission that the employee was supporting at the time of injury.

We are advising you of this change due to the fact that this may require some reprogramming of the programs you are now using for EDI 148 transactions.

If you have any questions, contact Scott Gallacher at 512-804-4695 or by e-mail at Scott.Gallacher@tdi.texas.gov

Signed this 9th day of August, 2001
