The Texas Department of Insurance (TDI), the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), and other state insurance departments are working to help Holocaust survivors and heirs settle unpaid claims against insurance policies issued in Europe between 1920 and 1945.
Insurance policies commonly issued during the period include
- personal property/casualty insurance
- life insurance and annuities
- commercial (business) insurance
- dowry insurance.
The International Commission on Holocaust Era Insurance Claims (ICHEIC) is a clearinghouse for claim processing and works with insurance companies to resolve claims. The deadline for submitting claims to ICHEIC was December 31, 2003.
Texas law allows Holocaust survivors and their heirs who are residents of Texas to sue insurers to recover on claims related to policies issued in Europe before 1946. Lawsuits filed before December 31, 2012, may not be dismissed for failure to comply with any other applicable limitations period.
NOTE: The submission of a claim does not guarantee that you will receive a claim payment.
