Central Texas concrete plants receive safety awards

Lone Star Safety Award winner Lauren ConcreteThe Texas Department of Insurance, Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC) recently recognized Lauren Concrete plants in Austin and Manor for their exemplary workplace safety programs by renewing their Lone Star Safety Awards. The ready-mix concrete plants are among 18 of 23 Lauren Concrete facilities in Texas to receive the Lone Star Safety Award. The award recipients previously earned Lone Star Safety Awards in October 2018. Each of these facilities also  received OSHA’s Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program designation in June 2019 for establishing and maintaining effective injury and illness prevention programs.

Lauren Concrete has partnered with DWC’s on-site consultation services for more than  11 years. The no-cost, confidential Occupational Safety and Health Consultation Program (OSHCON) helps Texas companies comply with OSHA regulations, creating employee safety programs, and maintaining a healthy workplace.

“Lauren Concrete is pleased with our continued partnership with the Workplace Safety programs at DWC,” said Kurt Homan, Lauren Concrete’s vice president of Safety and Environmental Affairs. “The Lone Star Safety Award represents our company’s ongoing commitment and tradition of safety leadership.”

To qualify for a Lone Star Safety Award, employers must have a proven safety program with injury rates below the national average for the previous three years and no work-related deaths within the past 12 months. Companies receiving this award may be asked to give presentations at industry associations, mentor other organizations, serve on panels for safety and health issues, or participate in the Texas Workers’ Compensation Conference.

“The Lone Star Safety Award is designed to support and promote companies, like Lauren Concrete, who are dedicated to creating a safe work environment through training, incentives, and employee involvement,” said Chris D’Amura, DWC’s director of Workplace Safety. “I encourage everyone who knows a Texas company with an excellent safety program to nominate it for a Lone Star Safety Award.”
