Summer Grilling Tips

There’s nothing more Texan than burgers and barbecue on a summer day. Follow these tips to make sure your cookout is a safe one.

  • Don’t grill or barbecue on windy days.
  • Never leave your grill unattended.
  • Propane and charcoal grills should only be used outdoors.
  • The grill should be placed well away from the home, deck railings and out from under eaves and overhanging branches.
  • Never spray lighter fluid on a fire.
  • Keep children and pets away from the grill area.
  • Don’t put coals in a plastic, paper, or wooden container.
  • If you smell gas while cooking on a propane grill, get away from the grill and call the fire department as soon as you can.
  • Keep your grill clean by removing grease or fat buildup from the grills and in trays below the grill.
