Information for Treating Doctors Regarding Causation Analysis

AUSTIN, TX—  The Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC) now offers new training materials for treating doctors to help them understand the role of a causation analysis in resolving a dispute, and to educate them on what information is required for these analyses.

Injured employees may need injury causation analyses from their treating doctors when there is a dispute. A treating doctor may be asked to provide a report that explains how and why the claimed accident or injury was a substantial factor in causing the work-related injury or illness within a reasonable degree of medical probability.

“I am pleased to offer training material for treating doctors,” said Commissioner of Workers’ Compensation, Ryan Brannan. “With this new training initiative, we hope to increase the knowledge of health care providers in the workers’ compensation system in order to assist injured employees with their dispute.”

The materials and video are available on the agency’s website at http://www.tdi.texas.gov/wc/hcprovider/causation.html.
