Internal/External Posting – TDI Employees and General Public

The Project Manager coordinates the planning and initiation of projects; monitors the progress and schedule of projects or administrative work cycles; and communicates with project stakeholders, management, and other relevant parties.


This position:

  • coordinates, plans, completes and evaluates projects, including ITS support projects and related resources;
  • coordinates work teams;
  • follows standard project management industry practices, such as the DIR framework;
  • monitors and manages resources assigned to ITS projects and reports status to ITS management;
  • compiles and distributes project information, project status reports, and project resource budget expenditures;
  • manages scope of project;
  • sets deadlines, assigns responsibilities, and monitors completion of projects;
  • documents risk and develops mitigation plans;
  • ensures compliance with approved operating procedures and project management methodology;
  • represents information technology office on cross-functional teams; and
  • performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in insurance, project management, management, business administration, public administration, information technology or in a related field.  Education and experience relevant to the position may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis. 


Additionally, this position requires:

  • a minimum of one and a half years' recent experience in tracking project schedules via MS Project or a Primavera Project Management software; experience/knowledge of business concepts, practices and procedures related to state government or insurance regulation.

Preferences for this position include:

  • experience managing projects under TDI ITS procedures; and
  • expertise in recent version of MS Office software including Word and Excel.

This position requires demonstrated knowledge of:

  • project management theories and practices applicable to projects of moderate scope;
  • office practices and administrative procedures; and
  • project management procedures published by Texas Department of Information Resources.

This position requires demonstrated skill in:

  • problem solving, decision making, and planning;
  • monitoring project resources and status via project management software; and
  • Microsoft Office software applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook;
  • using personal computers sufficient to enter and extract data from related systems and programs, such as Oracle; and
  • interpreting and communicating effectively on complex management concepts, both verbally and in writing.

This position requires the demonstrated ability to:

  • handle multiple initiatives, projects, priorities and deadlines while maintaining a consistent standard of quality;
  • interact professionally with a diverse group including executives, managers, technical leads and subject matter experts;
  • communicate and work effectively with all levels of employees and the public;
  • exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions;
  • identify project risk;
  • prepare reports and charts related to project status and issues;
  • coordinate the work of others; and
  • research and document issue resolution.
