Internal/External Posting – TDI Employees and General Public

The Director performs managerial work administering the daily operations and activities of the Life, Accident and Health (LAH) Office, of the Consumer Protection Section.


This position:

  • manages the TDI life, accident and health complaints and call center functions;
  • responds to highly sensitive or technical telephone inquiries;
  • develops and produces statistical reports;
  • participates in team management activities including strategic and business planning and process improvement projects;
  • coordinates and assists in the development of staff training;
  • assists with special projects; and
  • performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university. Education and experience relevant to position requirements may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.


Additionally, this position:

  • requires five years of experience as an executive in the administration of business or government with two years of those years  related to the position to be held.  Qualifying experience would include: demonstrated leadership; managing people, resources, and projects; planning, coordinating functions; or directing the work of others.


This position requires demonstrated knowledge of:

  • state and federal laws and regulations relevant to program area;
  • principles and practices of public administration and management;
  • management principles and organizational behavior, budget and staffing proposals; and
  • insurance products and coverages.

This position requires demonstrated skill in:

  • problem-solving, decision-making, and planning;
  • professional telephone techniques;
  • using Microsoft Office software applications, including Word, Outlook and Excel; and
  • using personal computers sufficient to enter and extract data from related systems and programs.

This position requires the demonstrated ability to:

  • establish and maintain positive, effective and open communication with employees at all levels of the agency and external customers;
  • exhibit leadership qualities;
  • develop employees through training, goal setting, and change management;
  • lead technical employees to accomplish group and agency goals;
  • conduct research on unfamiliar subjects or portions of the Texas Insurance Code and Texas Administrative Code and keep staff updated on changes in insurance regulation;
  • manage divergent viewpoints and diverse customers;
  • apply critical thinking to interpret complex civil and criminal statutes and rules for staff and the public; and
  • present complex data, policies, analyses and recommendations in a clear and concise manner.
