Current opportunity: Insurance Specialist/Auditor

Internal/External Posting – TDI Employees and General Public

The Insurance Specialist is responsible for auditing Life, Accident, and Health (LAH) consumer complaints and inquiries completed by the complaints specialists in Consumer Protection’s Complaints Resolution-Life Accident and Health (LAH) Office.


This position:

  • audits, reviews, analyzes, and resolves complex LAH and Property and Casualty (PAC) complaints and responds to inquiries;
  • analyzes files to ensure that all possible violations of the Texas Insurance Code and/or Texas Administrative Code are addressed;
  • mentors staff regarding complex LAH complaints;
  • reviewing workload for similar complaints that can be resolved both timely and efficiently; and
  • performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a  degree in insurance, finance, math, business administration, accounting, or in a field relative to assignment. Education and experience relevant to the position requirements may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.


Additionally, this position:

  • requires two and one half years’ of experience in technical insurance or in a field relative to assignment.


This position requires demonstrated knowledge of:

  • extensive knowledge of rules and statutes pertaining to life, accident and health lines of insurance; and
  • business or program terminology, personal computers, spelling, punctuation, grammar, typing formats, and word processing techniques and procedures.

This position requires demonstrated skill in:

  • problem solving, decision making, and planning;
  • effectively communicating, both verbally and in writing, highly technical information;
  • using Microsoft Office software applications, including Word, Outlook and Excel; and
  • using personal computers sufficient to enter and extract data from related systems and programs.

This position requires the demonstrated ability to:

  • compose technical correspondence to consumers, insurance company representative, agents, and others;
  • provide technical information in person and by telephone to staff members, consumers, insurance company representatives, agents, and elected officials;
  • communicate professionally and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of employees, industry representatives, governmental officials, and the general public;
  • apply critical thinking to analyze and solve work problems;
  • manage multiple tasks and priorities;
  • work independently and as a team player; and
  • meet deadlines on a daily basis.
