Current opportunity: Facilities Specialist

Internal/External Posting – TDI Employees and General Public

The Facilities Specialist performs routine staff services and property management work for the Texas Department of Insurance.


This position:

  • plans and coordinates property management needs;
  • coordinates office, furniture, and modular moves, including several weekend trips per year;
  • communicates with building owners, property managers, and lessors to address and resolve facility, safety, and security issues;
  • coordinates and monitors maintenance, construction, and renovation projects;
  • assists with planning, evaluating, negotiating, and approving leases for office space;
  • assists modular furniture technicians in assembly, disassembly, and maintenance of modular components;
  • prepares and issues identification badges;
  • tracks and maintains inventory of modular surplus; and
  • performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Graduation from high school or equivalent. Education and experience relevant to the position requirements may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.


Additionally, this position requires:

  • two and one half years of experience in a field related to the assignment.
  • a valid Texas driver’s license; and
  • minimum automobile liability insurance.

Driving records will be checked on all final candidate(s) for this position.


Preferences for this position include:

  • ACAD Certification or a two-year degree using ACAD design software for furniture and general office configuration, assembling, dismantling, and reassembling modular furniture; and
  • training and experience with the American with Disabilities Act and Texas Accessibility Standards.

This position requires demonstrated knowledge of:

  • state laws, rules, procedures, and regulations relevant to facility management, lease management, space utilization, and planning;
  • modular furniture configuration, design, and assembly; and
  • business or program terminology, spelling, punctuation, grammar, typing formats, and word processing techniques and procedures.

This position requires demonstrated skill in:

  • problem solving, decision making, and planning;
  • using Microsoft Office software applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook; and
  • using personal computers sufficient to enter and extract data from related systems and programs; and
  • operating a motor vehicle in highly congested traffic conditions within the City of Austin, the metropolitan area, and the Gulf Coast area in a safe courteous manner in compliance with traffic laws.

This position requires the demonstrated ability to:

  • read and interpret floorplans, blueprints, and inventory listings;
  • interpret policies, procedures, and regulations;
  • maintain a system of record-keeping;
  • manage and coordinate multiple tasks and priorities in order to meet necessary deadlines;
  • communicate and work effectively with a wide range of people with varied skills, knowledge, and backgrounds;
  • apply critical thinking to analyze and solve work problems;
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels of the agency and external customers; and
  • satisfy the conditions required to maintain fully-qualified driving status.
