Texas Department of Insurance

Current Opportunity: Insurance Specialist

Internal/External Posting – TDI Employees and the General Public

The Insurance Specialist in Company Licensing and Registration audits licensing applications to determine completeness and compliance with laws and regulations, specified in the Texas Insurance Code and the Texas Administrative Code.


This position:

  • analyzes and processes case management filings for the licensure and registration of regulated entities.
  • applies written procedures and processes in conjunction with applicable sections of the Texas Insurance Code (TIC) and Texas Administrative Code (TAC);
  • processes and tracks receipt of renewals, annual reports, filing fees, and late fees for various regulated entities, including third-party administrators, premium finance companies, surplus lines agents, purchasing groups, and risk retention groups;
  • maintains and updates regulated entity information into Sircon databases, including changes to officers, directors, providers, brokers and agents, names and addresses, and business plans;
  • completes equitable portion of CLR incoming written and telephone inquiries; and
  • participates in meetings with regulated entities, other governmental agencies, and agency staff.

Qualifications

This position requires sixty college hours. Education and experience may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.


Additionally, this position:

  • requires one year of experience in technical insurance or in a field relative to the assignment.


This position requires demonstrated knowledge of:

  • business terminology, spelling, grammar, arithmetic, personal computers, and office practices and procedures;
  • Microsoft Office software applications including Outlook, Word and Excel; and
  • insurance principles, practices, laws and statutes regarding insurance.

This position requires demonstrated skill in:

  • problem solving, decision making, and planning;
  • audit reports and forms, determine compliance with regulatory rules and statutes; and
  • file and maintain accurate records and logs, and maintain records management systems.

This position requires the demonstrated ability to:

  • apply critical thinking to analyze and solve work problems;
  • establish and maintain effective working relationship with supervisors, co-workers, insurance company executives and the public;
  • address technical problems and review and evaluate program activities; and
  • communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, preparing clear and concise reports of findings.
