Current Opportunity: Program Administrator

Internal/External for TDI employees and the general public

The program administrator performs routine work and provides technical support within the Texas Fire Incident Reporting System section of the State Fire Marshal's Office. Work involves collecting, compiling and analyzing data necessary for statistical reports.


This position:

  • administers the TEXFIRS program to ensure that the agency and division policies and procedures are followed;
  • responds to routine and non-routine inquires regarding rules, regulations, policies, and procedures;
  • maintains and processes diskette, tape and electronic data files;
  • produces output reports and query summary information in response to open records requests;
  • responds to general inquiries on systems support issues and program policies;
  • corresponds with the USFA staff, other state program managers and fire departments concerning program issues and updates;
  • coordinates and presents general program presentations at conferences and workshops; and
  • assists with special projects.

Qualifications

Education and experience relevant to position requirements may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.  Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in a field relative to the assignment. 


Additionally, this position:

  • requires two years of experience in the administration of a program relative to the assignment.


This position requires the demonstrated knowledge of:

  • business or program terminology, spelling, punctuation, grammar, typing formats, and word processing techniques, and procedures; and
  • office practices and administrative procedures.

This position requires the demonstrated skill in:

  • providing customer service to the public and government entities;
  • problem solving, decision making and planning; and
  • using Microsoft Office software applications, including Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.

This position requires the demonstrated ability to:

  • communicate professionally and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of employees and the general public;
  • work independently with minimal supervision;
  • understand and carry out complex instructions;
  • make decisions in accordance with rules, regulations, and procedures;
  • handle multiple tasks simultaneously and manage conflicting priorities in order to meet deadlines;
  • apply critical thinking to analyze and solve work problems;
  • work harmoniously with fellow employees in an effective, results oriented, productive team environment;
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels of the agency and external customers; and
  • lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
