Current Opportunity: Compliance Specialist

Internal/External Posting – TDI Employees and General Public

The Compliance Specialist performs work requiring specialized knowledge of insurance laws and regulations related to regulated entities. Work involves investigating and analyzing allegations of administrative violations for compliance with the Texas Labor Code and 28 Texas Administrative Code.


This position:

  • investigates allegations of non-compliance with the Texas Labor Code and 28 Texas Administrative Code;
  • enters investigation information into the Sircon database;
  • prepares acknowledgement correspondence and document requests that summarize the allegation and lists of requested evidence pertinent to the investigation;
  • researches various databases and internet sites for information pertinent to the investigation;
  • prepares summaries of investigation findings and conveys the findings in closing correspondence with the complainant and respondent;
  • discusses compliance requirements with workers’ compensation system participants;
  • maintains confidentiality requirements of complaint investigations as mandated by the Texas Labor Code; and
  • provides telephone assistance to the general public who inquire about how to file a complaint or request the status of an investigation.

Qualifications

Sixty college hours.  Education and experience relevant to position requirements may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.


Additionally, this position:

  • requires two years’ experience in workers’ compensation, the insurance industry, customer service, health care, legal environment, compliance monitoring, investigative work or in a field relative to assignment; and
  • prefers a Bachelor’s degree in insurance, finance, mathematics, accounting, business, public administration or in a field relative to assignment.


This position requires demonstrated knowledge of:

  • Texas Labor Code and 28 Texas Administrative Code; and
  • researching databases and claim files.

This position requires demonstrated skill in:

  • using Microsoft Office software programs (Word and Excel);
  • using relational databases and tracking systems; and
  • problem solving, decision making, and planning.

This position requires the demonstrated ability to:

  • communicate professionally and effectively both verbally and in writing, with all levels of employees and the public;
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships with manager, team members, co-workers, insurance company employees and the public;
  • understand and carry out complex instructions;
  • prepare and maintain complex records and files;
  • make decisions in accordance with rules, regulations, and procedures;
  • apply critical thinking to analyze and solve work problems;
  • work harmoniously with fellow employees in an effective, results oriented, productive team environment; and
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels of the agency and external customers.
