Current Opportunity: Financial Examiner Trainee

Internal/External Posting – TDI Employees and General Public

The Financial Examiner Trainee assesses the magnitude and impact of risks to business entities through analysis of financial statements, business plans, holding company management, and regulatory filings to determine financial condition and develop/update an appropriate supervisory plan.


This position:

  • performs analysis of business entities and holding company management, governance, enterprise risk, capital position, financial statements, and other relevant information;
  • identifies risks and challenges of entities in executing their business plan;
  • assesses the financial strengths and weaknesses of entities;
  • monitors the ongoing operations of business entities including the effectiveness of operational and risk management;
  • monitors solvency with a focus on identifying current and future risks to the business including identifying and evaluating emerging risks and stresses impacting the business;
  • distills complex information from both macro and micro economic perspectives to assess possible impact on assigned business entities;
  • prioritizes business entities and issues based on risk assessment and solvency concerns and develops clear and concise recommendations;
  • communicates with business entities, agency management and other regulators; and
  • prepares and presents professional summaries of issues, risks, and recommendations to business entities, agency management and other regulators.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in business administration, finance, accounting, economics, insurance, or related field.  Successful completion of the following courses is required for degrees other than accounting:

  • Accounting Fundamentals (6 semester hours)
  • Finance or Economics (3 semester hours)
  • Business Law (3 semester hours)

OR

Master of Science (M.S.), or M.B.A. in accounting from an accredited college or university.

COLLEGE TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED WITH SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION


Additionally, this position:

Must attain certification as an Accredited Financial Examiner (AFE) within a period not longer than three years after employment as a trainee and certification as a Certified Financial Examiner (CFE) within a period not longer than five years after employment as a trainee.

NOTE: In order to attain the Certified Financial Examiner (CFE), a total of three semester hours of a Management course from an accredited college or university is required.  Management courses offered by CPCU, LOMA and CLU will satisfy this requirement.



This position requires demonstrated knowledge of:

  • basic financial accounting practices and procedures, general business concepts, and a general understanding of business law and practices; and
  • using Microsoft Office software applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook.

This position requires demonstrated skill in:

  • problem solving, decision making, and planning;
  • excelling in a collaborative team structured work environment;
  • gathering and assimilating information from multiple sources efficiently, and developing clear and concise conclusions;
  • professional verbal and written communications skills; and
  • strong organizational skills.
