Current Opportunity: Customer Support Telecommunications Analyst

Internal/External Posting – TDI Employees and General Public

The Customer Support Telecommunications Analyst is responsible for performing complex technical work in maintenance, programming and other support of agency network equipment and telecommunications systems, associated software and peripheral equipment.


This position:

  • performs preventive/corrective maintenance on network and telecommunications equipment as directed;
  • uses software monitoring tools and other testing techniques to maintain high quality diagnostic capability in order to solve network and telecommunications problems;
  • assists in the repair and/or installation of network and telecommunications related equipment and wiring;
  • acts as the liaison with carriers and support vendors used by the agency with regard to proper operation, installation and maintenance of lines, network equipment and telecommunications systems;
  • maintains current knowledge of network equipment and telecommunications systems (hardware and software), modifications, and improvements;
  • conducts studies regarding system usage, makes recommendations for improvements and system requirements, reviews network and telecommunications plans for completeness and accuracy;
  • assists with the evaluation of all agency Wide Area Network/Local Area Network (WAN/LAN) data communications and information resources equipment and provides recommendations for improvement; and
  • performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in computer science, management information systems  or other related field.  Education and experience relevant to position requirements may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis. 


Additionally, this position requires:

  • three years' experience with electronics, network equipment, or telecommunications installation and maintenance work.

Preferences for this position include:

  • three years' experience in maintenance, installation and programming support of a network equipment and associated telecommunications equipment both one-site and using remote access software; and
  • one year vocational school or completion of a vendor-supplied program of study in computer network telecommunications.

This position requires demonstrated knowledge of:

  • network equipment and telecommunications principles, procedures, terminology, standards and wiring technologies; and
  • network facilities, Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and data processing techniques.

This position requires demonstrated skill in:

  • problem, decision making and planning;
  • install, move, and modify network and telecommunications and related equipment in accordance with specifications, standards, and procedures;
  • diagnose equipment malfunctions;
  • the installation of indoor telecommunications cabling and the use of related telecommunication tools and test equipment;
  • the use of personal computers and applicable software; and
  • the use of a Help Desk management system.

This position requires the demonstrated ability to:

  • apply critical thinking to analyze and interpret technical information;
  • clearly communicate, technical information, both verbally and in writing;
  • train others;
  • research and document problem solutions; and
  • establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with co-workers, agency staff and external contacts and the public.
