Current Opportunity: Insurance Specialist

Internal/External Posting – TDI Employees and General Public

The Insurance Specialist performs entry-level technical insurance work and data entry work in the Loss Control Program, part of the Inspections Office of the Regulatory Policy Division.


This position:

  • executes queries to determine expiration dates and compile reports for web publication;
  • monitors the shared email inbox, prints, and files submissions;
  • prepares, tracks, sends, and receives correspondence;
  • advises interested parties of compliance, complaints, and enforcement of amusement ride operations;
  • researches, responds to, and processes open records requests;
  • collects, organizes, analyzes, and/or prepares materials in response to requests for program information and reports from the public, insurance industry, legislative staff, TDI staff, and other stakeholders;
  • notifies law enforcement and other appropriate entities regarding the operation of non-compliant rides and other safety issue;
  • audits amusement ride documentation including policies, inspections certificates, amusement ride photographs, serial numbers, and filing fees for accuracy and completeness;
  • communicates verbally and in writing with the insurance industry and amusement ride owners and operators regarding incomplete or incorrect filings;
  • may review, process, and determine compliance of operators with the Amusement Ride Act;
  • reviews general liability insurance policy requirements and amusement ride safety inspection certificates;
  • processes filing fees;
  • may monitor and maintain the amusement ride database, suggest and evaluate upgrades and changes;
  • ensure technology and available data meet program needs;
  • may recommend program activities and improvements, problem resolutions, proposed legislation, operational improvements, and budgetary needs; and
  • may assist with the preparation and submission of reports on program performance; supports the implementation of agency goals and objectives in accordance with the balanced scorecard.

Qualifications

This position requires thirty college hours.  Education and experience may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.


Additionally, this position requires:

  • one year of experience in technical insurance or in a field relative to assignment.


This position requires demonstrated knowledge of:

  • office practices and administrative procedures;
  • insurance principles and practices;
  • business or program terminology, spelling, punctuation, grammar, typing formats, and word processing techniques, and procedures; and
  • applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

This position requires demonstrated skill in:

  • problem solving, decision making, and planning;
  • maintaining records, auditing documentation, and compiling reports;
  • using Microsoft Office software applications, including Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook to complete tasks such as editing, entering, and extracting data; and
  • using standard office equipment.

This position requires the demonstrated ability to:

  • communicate professionally and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of employees and the general public;
  • apply critical thinking to analyze and solve work problems;
  • work on a variety of administrative and technical assignments with multiple and competing priorities;
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff, insurance industry representatives, amusement ride owners and operators, amusement ride inspectors, and the general public;
  • select and accurately transcribe data from several source documents;
  • perform a series of procedural steps; and
  • organize and prioritize workload.

EMPLOYMENT WILL BEGIN ON OR AFTER SEPTEMBER 1, 2017

A computer skills test will be administered during interview.
