Current Opportunity: Information Systems Examiner Trainee

Internal/External Posting – TDI Employees and General Public

The Information Systems Examiner performs entry-level electronic data processing, auditing work of insurance company operations and financial information for solvency monitoring and statutory compliance with the Texas Insurance Code and the Texas Administrative Code.


This position:

  • assists in the evaluation of the data processing internal controls and financial systems of insurance companies;
  • assists in meetings with high-level company management officials to discuss the resolution of issues or problems relating to examination findings, recommendations and follow-up action and to promote compliance with appropriate standards, procedures and controls for Information System (IS) operations;
  • assists in the development of computer assisted audit techniques to evaluate the completeness and accuracy of data systems and to assist other staff conducting examinations;
  • prepares charts, diagrams, and tables that depict the results of an Information Technology (IT) audit;
  • analyzes, evaluates and makes recommendations concerning the IT audit of company records; and
  • assists with special projects.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in business administration, finance, accounting, economics, insurance, or related field is generally preferred.  Successful completion of the following courses is required for degrees other than Accounting:

  • Accounting Fundamentals (6 semester hours)
  • Finance or Economics (3 semester hours)
  • General Auditing (3 semester hours)
  • Business Law (3 semester hours)

OR

Master of science (MS), or M.B.A. in accounting from an accredited college or university.

COLLEGE TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED WITH SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION

Must attain qualification as an Accredited Financial Examiner (AFE) within a period not longer than three years after employment as a trainee, and qualifications of an Automated Examiner Specialist (AES), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) or Certified Financial Examiner (CFE), within a period not longer than five years after employment as a Financial Examiner III (trainee).

NOTE: In order to attain the Certified Financial Examiner (CFE), a total of three semester hours of a Management course from an accredited college or university is required.  Management courses offered by CPCU, LOMA and CLU will satisfy this requirement



This position requires demonstrated knowledge of:

  • basic financial accounting practices and procedures;

  • a general understanding of business law and practices;
  • gathering and assimilating information from multiple sources efficiently; and
  • developing clear and concise conclusions.

This position requires demonstrated skill in:

  • strong organizational skills.

This position requires the demonstrated ability to:

  • establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, team members, coworkers, and the public;
  • effectively and efficiently learn to audit financial statements, reports, records and forms;
  • apply statutory accounting practices and analytical skills;
  • take initiative, accept new challenges, and be adaptive to changes;
  • apply critical thinking to analyze solve work problems; and
  • learn common data processing practices, and the terminology used in the insurance industry.
