Current Opportunity: Program Specialist

Internal/External Posting - TDI Employees and General Public

The Program Specialist performs an array of technical and program support work. This position reports directly to the Deputy Commissioner of DWC Affairs and Strategic Planning for the Division of Workers’ Compensation.


This position:

  • serves as executive assistant to the Deputy Commissioner of DWC Affairs and Strategic Planning and provides administrative support to DWC Communications and Worker’s Compensation Research & Evaluation Group;
  • maintains and updates calendars by coordinating and scheduling meetings; makes travel arrangements and prepares and processes travel related documents;
  • assists program staff with issues relating to administrative functions, budget, human resources, training, IT, accounting, and open records;
  • serves as primary purchasing liaison, enters and approves purchase requisitions in CAPPs system; responsible for ordering items and supplies;
  • studies and analyzes operations and problems, and prepares reports of findings and recommendations;
  • works with program staff in determining trends and resolving technical problems;
  • assists in dissemination of public information;
  • assists with special projects; and
  • performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in a field relative to assignments.  Experience and education relevant to position may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.


Additionally, this position requires:

  • one year of experience in technical work, program administration, or a field relative to assignment; and
  • one year experience using Microsoft Word and Excel software applications.


This position requires demonstrated knowledge of:

  • local state and federal laws relating to the program area;
  • principles and practices of office administration and management;
  • business or program terminology, spelling, punctuation, grammar, typing formats, and word processing techniques and procedures;
  • statistical analysis processes; and
  • program planning implementation.

This position requires demonstrated skill in:

  • decision making, problem-solving and planning;
  • professional telephone techniques;
  • communicating and working effectively with all levels of employees and the public; and
  • using Microsoft Office software applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook.

This position requires the demonstrated ability to:

  • apply critical thinking to evaluate, analyze and interpret information;
  • gather, assemble, correlate and analyze facts;
  • devise solutions to problems;
  • present complex data, policies, analyses, and recommendations in a clear, concise, and compelling manner;
  • manage and coordinate multiple tasks and priorities in order to meet deadlines;
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, team members, coworkers, and the public; and
  • train others.

 

Word and Excel test will be administered during interview.
