Current Opportunity: Insurance Specialist (3 Positions)

Internal/External Posting – TDI Employees and General Public

The Insurance Specialist in the Agent and Adjuster Licensing Office, performs insurance inspection or investigation work, including analysis of licensee continuing education compliance.


This position:

  • provides administrative and support processing for Continuing Education (CE) automatic fine filings and appeals by determining compliance with Texas Insurance Code (TIC) and Texas Administrative Code (TAC) provisions;
  • provides information to licensees regarding exemption, extension, or waiver requests;
  • responds to verbal and written licensee inquiries regarding continuing education questions and licensing requirements and procedures; and
  • prepares correspondence for recommendations for licensure actions regarding CE appeals.

Qualifications

This position requires sixty college hours. Experience and education may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis. 


Additionally, this position:

  • requires one year experience in insurance work; and
  • prefers knowledge of license application processing procedures.

Preferences for this position include:

  • eighteen months customer service call center experience; and
  • one year experience providing technical information to consumers, insurance company representatives and agents.

This position requires demonstrated knowledge of:

  • office practices and administrative procedures; and
  • business or program terminology, spelling, punctuation, grammar, typing formats, and word processing techniques and procedures.

This position requires demonstrated skill in:

  • Microsoft Office software applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook;
  • problem solving, decision making and planning;
  • sing standard office equipment; and
  • filing, maintaining accurate records and logs.

This position requires the demonstrated ability to:

  • communicate professionally and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of employees and the general public;
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships with manager, team members, co-workers, and the public;
  • comprehend and apply rules and statutes including the Texas Insurance Code, Texas Administrative Code and related laws;
  • analyze correspondence and filings to extract pertinent information;
  • apply critical thinking to evaluate, analyze and interpret information;
  • draft clear and concise letters; and
  • discern matters of a confidential nature.
