Current Opportunity: Insurance Specialist

Internal/External Posting – TDI Employees and General Public

The Insurance Specialist is responsible for providing information to consumers and industry via the agency’s Consumer Help Line. Work involves being online at least six and half hours a day, answering insurance-related questions by accessing information from a database and other resources, and processing requests for publications and complaint forms.


This position:

  • answers a large volume of calls directed to the agency’s Consumer Help Line; and
  • performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Sixty college hours.  Education and experience relevant to the position requirements may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.  


Additionally, this position:

  • requires one year experience in technical insurance or in a field relative to assignment; and
  • prefers bilingual in Spanish and English.


This position requires demonstrated knowledge of:

  • insurance principles and practices;
  • basic customer service principles; and
  • effective written communication.

This position requires demonstrated skill in:

  • problem solving, decision making; and planning; and
  • the use of personal computers including experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook software applications.

This position requires the demonstrated ability to:

  • apply critical thinking to analyze and solve work problems;
  • interpret rules, regulations, filing requirements, policies, and procedures;
  • comprehend state and federal health insurance statutes and rules;
  • communicate professionally and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of employees, industry representatives, governmental officials, and the general public;
  • exercise good judgment and discretion;
  • discern matters of a confidential nature; and
  • be flexible and able to handle multiple tasks.
