Current Opportunity: Insurance Specialist V (2 Positions)

The Insurance Specialist is responsible for auditing Life, Accident, and Health (LAH) consumer complaints and inquiries completed by complaints specialists in Consumer Protection’s Complaints Resolution-LAH Office. Assignments involve complex life, accident and health insurance coverage. Work involves analyzing files to assure that all possible violations of the Texas Insurance Code and/or Texas Administrative Code are addressed, complaint processing procedures are consistently followed, and all performance measure requirements are completed appropriately.


This position:

  • audits LAH complaints completed by complaints specialists;
  • reviews, analyzes, and resolves complex LAH complaints and respond to inquiries;
  • mentor staff regarding complex LAH complaints; and
  • performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in insurance, finance, math, business administration, accounting, or in a field relative to assignment. Education and experience relevant to the position requirements may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.


Additionally, this position requires:

  • five years of experience in technical insurance or in a field relative to assignment such as Accredited Customer Service Representative (ACSR), insurance regulation, Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI), or Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU).


This position requires demonstrated knowledge of:

  • extensive knowledge of rules and statutes pertaining to life, accident and health lines of insurance; and
  • use of personal computers and software including Microsoft word, excel and outlook.

This position requires demonstrated skill in:

  • problem solving, decision making, and planning;
  • researching, writing, and editing technical insurance correspondence; and
  • problem-solving and troubleshooting.

This position requires the demonstrated ability to:

  • audit consumer complaints regarding all aspects of life, accident, and health insurance coverages;
  • process consumer complaints regarding all aspects of life, accident and health insurance coverages;
  • compose technical correspondence to consumers, insurance company representative, agents, and others;
  • provide technical information in person and by telephone to staff members, consumers, insurance company representatives, agents, and elected officials;
  • apply critical thinking to analyze and solve work problems;
  • manage multiple tasks and priorities;
  • work independently and as member of a team; and
  • meet daily deadlines.
