Current Opportunity: Crime Lab Specialist

Internal/External TDI Employees and the General Public

The Crime Lab Specialist provides technical and administrative support to laboratory personnel in the receipt, storage, return, disposition, inventory and destruction of evidence related to analysis of fire debris samples. Enters and updates evidence inventory in a computer database and mails reports to requesting agency. Performs daily administrative office functions of laboratory and provides general administrative assistance to other laboratory personnel.

This position:

  • enters and updates evidence handling and disposition;
  • organizes files;
  • prepares routine and special correspondence, reports, forms and documents;
  • compiles statistical data and prepares various charts, graphs, and writes summaries; and
  • plans and coordinates special projects; and
  • edits and writes using scientific terms and data.


Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent.  College hours in course work relevant to required experience may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.

Additionally, this position requires:

  • Nine (9) months’ work experience in a laboratory OR successful completion of 15 college hours.

This position requires the demonstrated knowledge of:

  • basic arithmetic;
  • administrative, planning, and implementation processes; and
  • principles and practices of office administration and management.

This position requires the demonstrated skill in:

  • using computer applications Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access;
  • establishing and adhering to goals and timelines, and to organize and prioritize workload; and
  • communicating effectively with all levels of employees and the public.

This position requires the demonstrated ability to:

  • establish and maintain effective working relationships with department staff;
  • organize, prioritize, coordinate, and handle multiple tasks;
  • develop and evaluate administrative policies and procedures;
  • maintain the highest levels of confidentiality at all times;
  • perform detail oriented assignments with a high degree of accuracy; and
  • lift up to 25 lbs. of materials.
