Current Opportunity: Insurance Specialist

Amended (07/12/17)-Internal/External-TDI Employees and the General Public

The Insurance Specialist performs an array of technical insurance work on the Property and Casualty Form Review and Filings Intake Team, part of the Property and Casualty Lines Office of the Regulatory Policy Division.


This position:

  • reviews property and casualty form filings, rule filings, policy submittals, and rate filings for accuracy and completeness;
  • communicates areas of concerns to insurance companies;
  • enters data into the electronic filings tracking system;
  • receives and initiates phone calls;
  • corresponds with insurance companies to answer questions about filing requirements; and
  • researches, responds to, and processes open records requests.

Qualifications

Sixty college hours. Education and experience relevant to the position requirements may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.


Additionally, this position requires:

  • Insurance Specialist III – one and one-half years’ experience in technical insurance matters or in a field relative to the assignment.
  • Insurance Specialist IV – two years’ experience performing intake review and processing of property and casualty filings in SERFF.

Preferences for this position include:

  • experience in property and casualty insurance.

This position requires demonstrated knowledge of:

  • insurance principles and practices; and
  • applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

This position requires demonstrated skill in:

  • problem solving, decision making, and planning;
  • maintaining records;
  • using personal computers to enter and extract data from related systems and programs, such as Sircon and SERFF; and
  • using Microsoft Office software applications, including Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.

This position requires the demonstrated ability to:

  • communicate professionally and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of employees and the general public;
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff, insurance industry representatives, and the general public;
  • select and accurately transcribe data from several source documents;
  • perform a series of procedural steps;
  • apply critical thinking to analyze and solve work problems;
  • interpret rules, regulations, filing requirements, policies, and procedures;
  • comprehend and apply complex regulatory rules and statutes to determine compliance or solve problems; and
  • organize and prioritize workload.

 

A skills test will be administered during the interview.
