Current Opportunity: Region I Manager

Internal/External-TDI Employees and the General Public

This position performs complex managerial work overseeing the daily operations and activities of the Field Office. Plans, assigns and supervises the work of others.


Additionally, this position:

  • directs and manages claims services, proceedings support and customer assistance in the delivery of Texas Workers’ Compensation information, services and dispute resolution;
  • administers performance evaluations, develops and implements corrective action/improvement plans when necessary;
  • interviews job applicants and approves or makes recommendations to hire;
  • ensures employees receive training and have resources necessary to perform their assigned   duties;
  • directs office activities to ensure the proper handling of workers’ compensation claims;
  • interprets division rules and regulations regarding highly sensitive legal/technical issues;
  • develops and implements policies and procedures to improve office operations;
  • provides feedback and input to senior management on division-wide procedures;
  • responds to customer complaints and legislative inquiries;
  • attends meetings and conferences with employers, insurance companies, and other relevant local, state, or federal agencies or authorities;
  • oversees the planning, development and operation of special Division of Workers’ Compensation facilities and public outreach; and
  • performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in business, communication, legal, or in a field relative to assignment.  Education and experience relevant to position requirements may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.


Additionally, this position requires:

  • five years of experience as an executive in the administration of business or government with two years of those years related to the position to be held.  Qualifying experience would include: demonstrated leadership; managing people, resources, and projects; planning, coordinating functions; or directing the work of others.

Preferences for this position include:

  • leadership skills;
  • project management skills;
  • executive letter writing experience;
  • ability to training others and develop presentations.

This position requires demonstrated knowledge of:

  • Microsoft Word and Excel software applications; and
  • quality assurance practices.

This position requires demonstrated skill in:

  • establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with a variety of individuals and groups;
  • communicating effectively with the general public, co-workers and management, both verbally and in writing; and
  • effectively expressing opinions and providing direction by formulating and administering operating plans and policies.

This position requires the demonstrated ability to:

  • learn the Texas Workers’ Compensation Acts and Rules;
  • prepare clear and objective determinations;
  • analyze documents;
  • make mathematical calculations to determine appropriate benefit amounts;
  • apply and explain relevant laws to claimants, health care providers, insurance company representatives, agents and elected officials;
  • work with a variety of individuals and groups within and outside the agency;
  • effectively communicate both orally and in writing;
  • be flexible and able to handle multiple tasks; and
  • meet deadlines.
