Gene Palomo, Mission Fire Department, and Elizabeth Torres, Senior Care Service, are Texas recipients of NFPA Remembering When Conference Awards. Mission Fire Department and Senior Care Service are partnering to deliver Remembering When, a fire and fall injury prevention program for senior adults. The NFPA award provides Palomo and Torres with a training workshop in Boston, including the expense of travel, hotel, and group meals; Remembering When: Fire and Falls Prevention program curriculum; and 100 “How to Prevent Fires” and 100 “How to Prevent Falls” brochures for distribution to older adults. College Station Fire Department wins 2011 Rolf H. Jensen Memorial Public Education Grant. The grant will support the department's fire and life safety public education initiative for the college community, called “Rental Housing Fire Reduction Education Program. See NFPA Website.

The Texas Forest Service Prevention and Mitigation Department is named a state level winner of a NFPA 2010 Firewise Leadership Award. See NFPA news release.

Fire investigator Kim Herring of the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office (HCFMO) was honored with "Local Hero" award for her community service. Lt. Herring heads the Juvenile Fire Stoppers Program of Harris County. See HCFMO press release.
- April 14, 2009
Pasadena Fire Marshal David Brannon and Investigator Debbie Taylor received the John R. Rauch Award for their achievement in education and arson prevention. The Texas Chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators honored them for their juvenile firesetter intervention program. See story.

Waco Fire Marshal Jerry Hawk was honored by A Texas Advisory Council on Arson (ATAC) for his 36 years of fire service. Hawk, a strong believer in public education, most recently lead the We're Out to Alarm Texas smoke alarm installation program, which he attributes to the fire death-free year (2008) in Waco. John Buck, a 14 year old, of Jefferson Texas received 200 smoke alarms from the Insurance Council of Texas for the elderly in his area. He is working on his Eagle Scout award and trying to do something good for his community. See ICT press release.
