Step 1: Talk to the insurance company.
You can resolve many issues by talking to your insurance company or agent. Your agent can explain fees, charges, and policy limitations. Also ask your agent for a copy of your annual statement.
Most companies have a toll-free customer help line. The phone number is printed on your policy.
To find a missing life insurance policy or annuity contract, use the National Association of Insurance Commissioners’ Life Insurance Policy Locator Service.
Step 2: File a complaint with us.
We can help with complaints against the insurance companies, agents, and adjusters we regulate.
Before you complain to us, understand that there are some things we can’t do:
- We can’t make a company return any surrender charges or other fees that were outlined in your policy.
- We can’t stop a company from increasing life insurance premiums.
