Re:   Severe winter weather – an extraordinary event: issues concerning workers’ compensation deadlines


On February 12, 2021, under Texas Government Code Section 418.014, Governor Greg Abbott issued a disaster declaration in all 254 counties due to the severe winter weather.

The Texas Department of Insurance, Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC) is tolling the following Texas workers’ compensation deadlines, effective February 12, 2021, through February 23, 2021:

  • workers’ compensation claim notification and filing deadlines;
  • medical billing deadlines;
  • medical and income benefit payment deadlines;
  • electronic data reporting deadlines; and
  • medical and income benefit dispute deadlines.
