This training will review the newly adopted billing and fee guidelines for designated doctors and other certifying doctors when billing for maximum medical improvement (MMI) and impairment rating (IR) and other similar workers’ compensation specific exams.

The training will also provide billing instructions to health care providers who perform designated doctor-ordered testing and evaluations related to the designated doctor exam.

Background:

The Texas Department of Insurance, Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC) adopted new and amended rules in 28 Texas Administrative Code (TAC) Chapter 133, General Medical Provisions and 28 TAC Chapter 134, Benefits--Guidelines for Medical Services, Charges, and Payments to improve billing and reimbursement for certain workers' compensation-specific services. This includes designated doctor examinations, required medical examinations, work status reports, and MMI evaluations and IR examinations by treating and referred doctors.
